We live in very strange economic times....When I ask this question of friends, colleagues and relatives I get a range of responses. Some are doing better than before, others as well as before the credit crunch but many are finding it very hard to cope.
How is it for you? Is the recession helping you re-think getting into debt? Did you do any cutbacks in your expenditure?

I am lucky because the recession has not affected me. I took early retirement 2 years ago with a full pension and now have a part time job that I really enjoy so I am happier and better off financially than when I was working full time. I have never been a saver because I believe in enjoying life to the full and going on holidays as much as I can, so the reduced values in the investment markets has not affected me.
I do sympathise with those who have been bady affected but if they have a good quality of life, money is not so important! |

The recession has affected each of my three careers. The first, as a family entertainer was hit during 9/11, then took a hit during the DC sniper attacks and has slowed steadily until it finally started to show a glimmer of recovery last year.
This year has improved as well, but the entertainment industry may never be the land of plenty that it used to be. I've experienced steady growth in tutoring clientele, probably because parents want to help their children become flexible and educated enough to weather recessions well! I started a home daycare last year and it has also steadily grown. Am I comfortable yet? Not quite, but I know I can work through this. |
