Since we have a few Kahlua drinkers, I thought I would share a recipe my mother sent me years ago:
4 cups of sugar
2/3 cup instant coffee
2 cups water
1 quart vodka
1 vanilla bean
Mix sugar with dry instant coffee, add water and boil three to five minutes - let cool - strain through cheese cloth into vodka. Pour into a bottle adding the vanilla bean.
Store in a dark place for a least 30 days. Brandy may be used instead of vodka.
