    Having flipped our calendars over to their final pages, it’s official: the holiday season has commenced! Though many of us try to limit our consumption of belly-busting seasonal entrées and desserts during the holidays, most of us enjoy savoring wintery flavors throughout the month.

     

    Preparing a few flavorful holiday drinks is one fun and speedy way to satisfy your cravings without wasting hours in the kitchen. From boozy brunch cocktails to creamy after-dinner drinks, these wintertime beverages are guaranteed to please!

     

     

    Arctic Apple Pie Milkshake

     

    Who says milkshakes are a summertime treat?! This fantastic recipe transforms your favorite holiday pie into an addictively sippable sub-zero drink! Step away from the holiday oven and cool off with this indulgently sweet pie-inspired beverage.

     

    Time Required: 25 minutes

    Makes: 6 servings 

     

    Ingredients:

    2 medium apples (3 cups chopped), peeled, cored, and chopped

    1 cup of vanilla ice cream

    ¾  cup of water

    ¼  cup of brown sugar

    1 tablespoon of a milk of your choice

    1 tablespoon of cornstarch

    ½ a teaspoon of cinnamon or apple pie spice

    A pinch of salt (or to taste)

    Optional toppings: melted caramel or maple syrup for drizzling

     

    Instructions:

    1.) Combine your apples, cornstarch, cinnamon or pie spice, brown sugar, salt, and water in a large saucepan. Cook the apples until they have softened or for roughly 10-15 minutes.

    2.) When the apples have cooled, puree them in a blender. Blend until smooth.

    3.) Add ice cream, apple puree and milk to the blender. To make each milkshake, use two tablespoons of apple puree and a tablespoon of milk per cup of ice cream. Blend the mixture until smooth.

    4.) Add an optional drizzle to your milkshake, serve, and sip away!

     

     

    Holly Jolly Christmimosa

     

    Waking up early during the holidays can be rough! Make your mornings a little brighter with this fresh and fruity winter-inspired mimosa. Opening presents just became even more fun!

     

    Time Required: 10 minutes

    Makes: 8 servings

     

    Ingredients:

    2 large apples, cored and finely chopped

    1 cup of pomegranate seeds

    1 cup of fresh cranberries

    1 cup of seedless green grapes, halved

    1 bottle of prosecco or champagne

    1 cup of sparkling grape juice

     

    Instructions:

    1.) In a pitcher or bowl, combine the chopped apples, pomegranate seeds, cranberries, and halved green grapes.

    2.) Add the sparkling grape juice and champagne shortly before serving. Enjoy!

     

     

    White Russian Gingerbreggnog

     

    The only thing better than one classic holiday flavor is three! Combining the indulgent booziness of eggnog, vodka, and coffee liqueur with sweet and spicy gingerbread-inspired ingredients makes for a dessert drink you’ll remember long after the holidays are over.

     

    Time Required: 5 minutes

    Makes: 2 servings 

     

    Ingredients:

    4 ounces of eggnog

    4 ounces of Kahlua

    4 ounces of vodka

    3 teaspoons of molasses

    ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger

    1 teaspoon of sugar for rimming the glasses

    ½  teaspoon of cinnamon for rimming the glasses

    Optional toppings: molasses and whipped cream

     

    Instructions:

    1.) Pour the eggnog, Kahlua, and vodka into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Add the 3 teaspoons of molasses and ground ginger. Shake to combine the ingredients. Set the cocktail shaker aside.

    2.) Using a spoon, stir the cinnamon and sugar together. Pour the cinnamon-sugar blend onto a plate. Wet the rims of your glasses. Dip and roll the rims of the glasses in the mixture until well-coated.

    Pour the drinks into the glasses. If desired, top with whipped cream and a drizzling of molasses. Serve the beverages and enjoy!  

     

     

    Cozy Candy Cane Cocoa

     

    Few flavors epitomize the winter season more than peppermint. Instead of whipping out the peppermint bark, enjoy the classic combination of chocolate and mint in liquid form! Kids and grandkids love this drink; a splash of alcohol can add an extra bit of warmth for adults, too!

     

    Time Required: 15 minutes

    Makes: 4 servings

     

    Ingredients:

    4 cups of a milk of your choice

    3 ounces of semisweet chocolate, roughly chopped

    4 peppermint candy canes, crushed

    Optional toppings: whipped cream, additional candy canes for stirring, a splash of crème de menthe or peppermint-flavored vodka 

     

    Instructions:

    1.) On a cutting board, chop the semisweet chocolate.

    2.) Place the candy canes inside of a plastic bag. Using a heavy object or a kitchen utensil of your choice, crush the candy canes into small pieces.

    3.) In a saucepan, heat the milk until it is hot but not boiling. When the milk is hot, stir in the crushed candy canes and chocolate. Whisk the milk until the ingredients are well-blended.

    4.) Pour the cocoa into four mugs. Adults may choose to add a splash of alcohol to their drinks. Top with whipped cream, and serve with additional candy canes if desired. Enjoy while hot!

     

     

    Naughty (or Nice) Glühwein

     

    If you love red wine and wintertime spices, you’re sure to love this German-inspired mulled wine recipe! Fruity and packed with holiday flavors, this slow-cooker-prepared drink can be made “naughty” for adults or “nice” for children. Make both varieties for your next family gathering!

     

    Time Required: 30 minutes

    Makes: 4 servings 

     

    Ingredients:

    1 bottle of red wine OR 1 bottle of fruit punch

    1 cup of cider OR 1 cup of apple juice

    1 cup of cranberry juice

    1 cup of fresh cranberries

    2 organic oranges and peels

    ⅓ cup sugar

    2 cinnamon sticks

    1 tablespoon of star anise

    1 tablespoon of whole cloves 

     

    Instructions:

    1.) Combine the wine or punch, cider or apple juice, cranberry juice, fresh cranberries, sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and cloves in your slow cooker. Add the juice of both oranges and the peel of one orange to the mixture. Set your slow cooker to high and cook for roughly 30 minutes or until warm.

    2.) Serve the drinks warm with the remaining orange peel as garnish. Drink up!
